As usual, I’m totally winging this blog post, right down to basically having no idea what I’m going to post about today.

So let’s stream of consciousness this bitch and see where it goes, shall we?

I know, let’s talk some bourbon. I’ve had the opportunity to buy a couple new brands, and Francis had some awesome new to us brands at our recording session the other day. That makes it a great topic for a Monday.

Francis had two of the new “craft” versions of venerable brand Old Forester at Studio F the other day. First was a “1920 Prohibition Style” bottle that rang in at 115 proof. Talk about putting lead in your pencil. Good stuff though. Some ice really opened up the flavors. Complex, sweet, hint of chocolate. Next up was “1897 Style” Old Forester. Joining the party at 100 proof, it was more straightforward in flavor, less complex, but still sweet with a nice finish.

Here at Studio M, I’ve popped open a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond 100 proof. Quality stuff at a nice price point. Sweet, with a hint of marshmallow I think with a bit of woodsy aroma.

Youngest spawn Bjorn, having reached legal age, is now beginning an exploration of the myriad flavors of sprits. He purchased some Japanese made whisky (he’s a serious fan of all things Japanese these days, including learning the language) and we did a quick tasting. He confidently pronounced a “floral sweetness, like Jasmine tea” after a nice size sip. That’s my boy.
