Francis here and it is with a sad and heavy heart that I write that as of this date, Prince Philip, the Iron Duke, has passed away, just a few months shy of his 100th birthday.
Much will be said of this great man in the coming days. His humor, his kindness, his valor and his steadfastness over the last century will all be celebrated. We here at Snakes and Otters express our heartfelt condolences to Her Majesty the Queen, all the members of the Royal Family, the British people and the remainder of the world. As Edwin M. Stanton supposedly said at Abraham Lincoln’s passing, “Now he belongs to the Ages.”
And for the record, because we love such things here, at the time of his death, his full title was His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich, Knight of the Garter, Knight of the Thistle, Order of Merit, Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire, Companion of the Order of Australia, Companion of the Queen’s Service Order, Privy Counselor.
The picture shown here was taken around 1990 and was used in the official Twitter announcement of his passing. I believe it captures the man perfectly.
An Age has now passed . . . we were the richer for his presence and are poorer for his departure.
It was one of my favorite episodes where we spoke of Her Majesty the Queen and her long reign. I’ve embedded the episode below for everyone to enjoy once again, and we encourage everyone to raise a glass to the memory of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh in the coming days . . .
