Hello Readers and Listeners!
Was on the receiving end of a small kindness today and that always gets me thinking about the role gratitude should play in our lives. We all have gripes, we all like to vent, and certainly if you know me, complaining is one of my most used skills, especially about traffic. However, there are kind and thoughtful people in the world, and it always yanks me back to my better self when I’m on the receiving end.
There is much to be thankful for in this crazy world of ours. Gratitude is an attitude, and I need to work on mine more. We live in the much anticipated 21st century, with technology serving our every need. There are advances in medicine, construction, transportation and any number of other areas of our lives. Life is easier and more leisurely than ever. Sure, there’s not been any decent rock and roll made in the last 20 years, but if you think the past is somehow magically more wonderful than the present, PJ O’Rourke has 1 word for you, “dentistry”.
Anyway, let’s be grateful for our lives, and use that gratitude to build a future of peace and liberty. It can be done. In the meantime, dig one of my favorite episodes, a Thanksgiving one we recorded at a St. Meinrad Archabbey in beautiful Southern Indiana. A great, lovely place, and a short drive to a great German restaurant, the Schnitzelbank. We had an absolute ball at a place rich in tradition and beauty.
