Otterites! Good Monday to you.

So old Martin here had a birthday this past weekend, and Mrs. Martin and I decide to celebrate with a quick afternoon road trip. Aside from being Francis’ old stomping grounds, Bardstown Kentucky is a cool little small fun town close to the ‘Ville. It is the heart of Nelson County, which is my favorite bourbon origin county. I just always feel the best stuff comes from Nelson County. It is called the Bourbon Capitol of the World by the marketers after all.

Now Mrs. Martin and I didn’t do any of the available distillery tours or anything like that. We instead headed straight for a local landmark, Boone’s Butcher Shop, for our first stop. Great place. Full deli counter, and fresh and frozen beef and pork all over. We grabbed some fresh bacon and some steaks for the family, and I even squirreled away some country ham biscuit slices (Francis’s favorite). I plan to make up that gorgeous bacon the next time the fellows are over to record here at Studio M.

Next stop was lunch at Mammy’s Kitchen. Here’s where the hamburger resurrection comes in. I have a friend I call the “Mayor of Bardstown”. She lives there and knows everybody, including the owner of Mammy’s. On her recommendation I had Mammy’s “Corn Bread Mafia Burger”. Not disappointed.

Corn bread is the bun, and gloriously sweet it was. Then burger, pickles, tomatoes, onions and COLE SLAW! So many flavors and it worked great. Swiss cheese is also usually included in the mix, but gastro-intestinal issues makes me pass on the dairy. Totally insane grub. Not sure I can even describe the messy sweet goodness.

I will have to press Francis to see if he has tried the Corn Bread Mafia Burger. If not, I sense a road trip in the future for Snakes & Otters. Distillery tour and meal at Mammy’s.
