Greetings and salutations Otterites!
As you may have heard, Robert, Francis and I are all grads of that esteemed institution, Bellarmine College, of course now known as Bellarmine University or BU (boo) as the kids say. I guess inflation hits everything. That’s a pondering for another day however. Today we celebrate a pretty rare opportunity. The Bellarmine Knights Men’s Basketball, only in their second season in Division I NCAA athletics (yep, where the big boys like the Cats play), are in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship Game. Absolutely huge. This kind of thing doesn’t happen. Reclassification to Division I is an exercise fraught with risks for a college’s athletic programs. Coach Scotty Davenport and the Knights have managed it skillfully, and after an upset of number 1 tournament seed Liberty University, are set to return to Freedom Hall and host the Jacksonville University Dolphins for A-Sun bragging rights. NCAA rules unfortunately prohibit recently reclassified schools from being eligible for the “Big Dance” however. (I think if I say Arch-Ma Adness-Ma I’ll owe the NCAA a mortgage payment.)
Robert and Second Daughter have season tickets, and old Martin here lucked out and got a single ticket for the Tuesday night game in the same row! So 2/3 of Snakes and Otters will be rooting on the Knights in person.
Tickets are still available via TicketMaster (only $14!) and parking at Freedom Hall is free! Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 5 PM Otterites. Come join us if you can. We’re fit to bust here at S&O. Going to be very exciting.
